Punk Rock Burlesque: Sunny’s Last Show ~a review

Last  night I attended Punk Rock Burlesque: Sunny’s Last Show, at Rain Dogs.

Sunny is leaving for NYC on May 1st. She will live in NYC and continue  producing Jax PRB twice a year and co producing The Cabaret Hour every first Friday of the month. PRB will soon  be featured in other cities.

Now back to last night’s Punk Rock Burlesque.
The venue was Rain Dogs. Rain Dogs is considered by many to be Riverside’s living room. I prefer family room, as it is a place filled with love.  Punk Rock Burlesque is all about love. The musicians love the music, the burlesque performers love the dance and the audience loves to watch and to listen to them both.

DJ GeeXella kept the front of the house flowing with her smooth sounds.

Charlie Schuck started the PRB Show, Just a man, his guitar, and lyrics carved from his own heart. That’s what you think anyway, but Charlie has a way of sneaking up on you, and before you know it he has worked his way deep into your heart, making you wonder whether that’s a guitar pick, or a scalpel in his hand.

Nine Tenthsthe longest running consecutive punk band with only original members in Florida” is a three member Punk Rock band; Mitch, Donnie and  Walt.
When the front man is barefoot you know you’re in for a foot stomping good time.

Forsaken Profit$
These guys remind me of the flag of the United States of America, or at least what my Grandfather believed about the flag.  He always flew the flag and he would say “you can find whatever you need wherever our flag is flown. If you need help, you’ll find it, and if you need a butt kicking, you’ll find that too.”
That’s Forsaken Profits;
Tyler Capehart – Vox, Bryan Kyle – Guitar, Ty Watkins – Drums, Jermain Payne – Bass.
If you need help, you’ll find it. If you need a butt kicking you’ll find that too. Only they have a Jizz Rag instead of a flag.

“Their lyrics hit you hard, like a steel toe boot to the mouth three days from payday, with no money for medical treatment, nothing to do but suck it up, tough it out and question your life choices. That’s what they want. They want you to question everything. They want you to question what you believe and question why you believe it.  More importantly, they want you to question what you feel and what you don’t feel and why the hell don’t you feel?” ~Dave Burkey, Forsaken Profit$ at Pizza Fest

Mudtown

Jack Ringca, Israel  De Los Santos, Josh Rose, and Scott James. Are they Hillbilly Punk, Classic Country, Hard Rock, Folk, or_____?
Yep. If your soul craves a Hootenanny, a Jam  Session, and a revival all in one, Mudtown is your headliner. You can go to hell and come to Jesus all at the same time.

Big Daddy Round Round AKA Jack Ringca, percussionists, guitarist, singer, master of the yo-yo and the telescoping baton was the  Master of Ceremonies and the drinker of Luscious Lesbian Lemonade.

Miss Parker started the burlesque portion of the show. She wore boots that every man in the audience wished she would walk over to him with. Alas she pulled a  young redhead lass who was sporting a Forsaken Profits shirt from the audience instead. Both the shirt and her cheeks were red by the time Sunny finished her number.

Next up was Anita Nightcap. She wasn’t horsing around as she pranced, and she  danced, then galloped away, saddlebag full of hearts.

Veronica LePeige made her Punk Rock Burlesque debut last night. A girl, a couple of friends, a couple of umbrellas, and a hat. From storm to sweet summer rain she kept the doppler guessing what was next. She could have left her hat on, but in the end she took it off. I don’t think Joe Cocker would complain. I know no one in the audience did

Chlora De Formme  had, at a previous PRB, made her debut with a homage to Burlesque history by dancing a Burlesque Classic, the Balloon Pop Dance. She entertained with another classic this time around. There’s not much more classic than a lemonade stand. It’s sweet, it’s tart, it’s wholesome, well, two outta three ain’t bad, plus it’s always good to leave your audience thirsting for more.

Lyla Jay Blu
Whether performing at Messy Kitty Gear Presents; Kitty Purrlesque, where she was indeed, the cat’s meow, or with the achievement of a personal goal, being accepted into the sisterhood of  Les VixensLyla knows one speed, full throttle passion!
Standing still or strutting across the stage, she is always moving 120 miles an hour. Last night was no exception as she left the audience blown away, watching her taillights, from the distance, smiles on their faces.

Ivy Les Vixens
Ivy is the ringleader of  Les Vixens and an adopted sister of Jax, frequently appearing at InCahoots Nightclub and other spots around town, although not frequent enough.
She’s gone from Princess to Queen during the time I’ve watched her reign.
She left her crown at home for last night’s performance, opting instead for boots, tattered stockings, and red and black tartan. She took the audience on a tour of Scottish games that left even the English craving Scotch, and wishing her a hearty, “Haste Ye Back”.

Autumn Josette was the Punk Rock Burlesque Stage Kitten for the evening. Equal parts innocence and deviance, maybe just a little more innocence than deviance. She had the audience purring and many wanting to take her home. Sorry cats, this Kitten already has a forever home. You’ll have to catch her on stage for more catnip.

Sonny Boner closed out the night with the PRB squad at his feet looking up as the disciples to Jesus at the last supper.
But we won’t have to wait for communion to have a taste of Sunny’s/Sonny’s work again. Her disciples remain, carrying on her work while she journeys on, Lady Liberty, herself, spreading the Gospel of Punk Rock Burlesque to NYC and beyond!

BUT…she’s not gone yet. You can still see her @rdtrashpanda from 12-4, Sunday at Rain Dogs.
Bonus! She has merch!
