Forsaken Profit$ hails from Atlanta, Georgia, Dragons Den is their home.
I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing them at Shantytown Pub for the PIZZA FEST 4 Preparty
Some would call them Punk, or Thrash Punk, or Crossover Thrash, and or Skate Punk. Hell some would even mention they have elements of Rock, and Metal. None of that really matters.
The fact that it doesn’t matter is what their music is all about. They can’t be confined to a narrow definition and placed neatly into a box. They bust musical genres just as they bust gender stereotypes, both on stage and at convenience stores, somewhere between ATL and Jax.
“Gender ur pickles its 2018”
Their lyrics hit you hard, like a steel toe boot to the mouth three days from payday, with no money for medical treatment, nothing to do but suck it up, tough it out and question your life choices.
That’s what they want. They want you to question everything. They want you to question what you believe and question why you believe it. More importantly, they want you to question what you feel and what you don’t feel and why the hell don’t you feel?
Their album Minimum Wage Maximum Rage is available at Bandcamp.
It sells for $15. Interesting enough, that is what minimum wage should be.
Their lyrics are unapologetically filled and fueled, with and by, rage and anger. They attack the police state, politics, discrimination, oppression, and the status quo. That rage is far from directionless though. It is a rage with purpose, a rage against conformity for conformities sake.
That said, they are also some of the nicest people, both the band and those who follow them, you could ever meet.
While on stage they might sing about burning your bar or club…the whole world down, off stage they would be the first in line to help you rebuild, should such a calamity occur.
If Pizza Fest were a Sandra Bullock film, Forsaken Profit$ would be Miss Congeniality. I mean, Mr. Congeniality. Dammit! Congeniality. They would win the prize for Congeniality.
I have often seen bands help other bands set up or breakdown, usually because they were up next, but no always. Forsaken Profit$ is the first traveling band I’ve seen consistently go out of the way to help others. To help; other bands, to help fans, to help non fans, to help people in general, in and around a venue. Plus they promoted the hell out of the event. I don’t think anyone, other than Miss Parker herself, promoted the event(s) more.
When they weren’t on stage or out randomly helping strangers in our fair city Forsaken Profit$ visited our beaches where they continued one of their favorite pastimes with unsuspecting beachgoers, “Have you seen dad?” “He looks like me, only older, with a beard, and a beer belly.”
I’ll let you in on a secret, dads not missing. Hey, I said they were good kids, not angels.
They played the game with me, of course I already knew it was a game so I said, I’m old, fat and bearded, they laughed and said, “Dad!”
If you want a band that’s as kind and courteous off stage as they are lyrically and musically aggressive, brutal even, on the stage, with the heart and the talent to walk both walks, Forsaken Profit$ is for you.
And if not, maybe you should ask yourself why.
Forsaken Profit$ plays again today at Nighthawks for PIZZA FEST 4
Both PIZZA FEST 4 Preparty and PIZZA FEST 4 are brought to you by Miss Parker and Scotchy Scotch Scotch LLC.
In closing, my Punk Kids are better than your Punk Kids – nah, they’re all good kids, mine are just more huggable and better looking. I guess they take after dad.
