Veterans plaque unveiled

With three major military installations, and thousands of active-duty service members, veterans, and civilian employees, there is no doubt that Jacksonville is a military town. That was further cemented this morning as Mayor Lenny Curry and members of the Veterans Council of Duval County as well as our Military & Veterans Affairs Department unveiled a plaque honoring our active-duty and veteran service members across from City Hall at James Weldon Johnson Park.
“Over a quarter of our residents have a direct link to an active-duty service member of veteran – and I am no exception,” said Mayor Curry. “The City of Jacksonville is dedicated to supporting our veterans and our veteran service organizations.”

The plaque, located in front of the half-circle of flags facing Duval St, reads: “To all men and women of Jacksonville who served their country in the armed forces of the United States of America to preserve the blessings of liberty and freedom for all.”

The new plaque at James Weldon Johnson Park honors five branches of the U.S. military, prisoners of war and military personnel listed as missing in action.
