There is a beautiful new art installation at the FIS Global parking garage in Brooklyn, 347 Riverside Avenue.
The artist is Sheila Wyne from Anchorage, Alaska. The sculpture is titled “The Walker.” It was crafted from repurposed traffic signs. The piece was commissioned via a partnership between the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville and FIS Global.
Jacksonville’s Walker joins another piece of public art in Downtown Anchorage by the same artist. Both Walkers are from The Wayfarer Series
You can find the Anchorage Walker at the corner of 4th Avenue and B street in Downtown Anchorage. The striking color palette that makes up the figurative sculpture comes from the use of decommissioned road signage. The retro reflective lighting properties of the signage creates an active and energized surface that bounces light back to the viewer’s eye. Look for the Walker to be animated at night by artificial light such as headlights from passing cars and street lamps.
