Mary Singleton

Mary Singleton one of the first black women elected to our City Council in 1967, she is also the first black woman from Jacksonville to be elected and serve in the Florida House of Representatives.
Ms. Singleton is honored in so many ways here locally, including the Mary L. Singleton Award, given yearly to the most outstanding City Council Committee Chair. Her name also adorns the Mary Singleton Senior Center in Springfield where the desk she used in the Florida House of Representatives is on display.
