The Miami Seaquarium

The Miami Seaquarium opened its doors on this date in 1955. The 38-acre facility, located on Virginia Key in Miami, is the oldest oceanarium in the United States. The Seaquarium is home to fish, sharks, sea turtles, birds, and manatees, as well as other marine life. From 1963 to 1967 the television series “Flipper” was filmed at the Miami Seaquarium, which now hosts over half a million visitors annually.
