The Hourglass Pub & Coffee House announces it will close

The Hourglass Pub & Coffee House owner, Shannon Widow announced today, at 3:50PM via The Hourglass Pub & Coffee House facebook page that the Hourglass will close its doors for good February 3, 2018 at closing time.

“Oh Loves….how do I begin. Well, I guess there ain’t nothing to it but to do it, so here goes. 6 years ago I had a dream of doing something more with my life, of securing a legacy for my children, of getting out from under the corporate good ol’ boys system. In September of 2012, I realized that I wanted to do all of that by opening a bar…but not just any bar. It was to be a public house – a place of friends and love and art and fun and music and good things and good times. In November of 2013, I signed a lease on what is now the Hourglass Pub & Coffee House. Through some hard work and hard fought victories, I opened the doors to Hourglass on Friday, June 13, 2014. The hard work and victories didn’t end there…it was just the beginning. With the help of some amazing family and friends, I worked and worked and I won!

I created a place where all people regardless of culture, race, religion, background, social status, income or niche, came together and enjoyed each other. Nerds, rappers, goths, queens, metal-heads, hippies, geeks, performers of all genres, hipsters, lgbtq, poets, drinkers, strippers, scene kids, non-drinkers, hillbillies, beatniks, hip-hoppers, train kids, politicos, ravers, activists and vibers….all come and all feel welcome and safe (I hope). Hourglass became the “cool kids basement”.

The last 3 and a half years have been the most amazing years of my life, but not without some sacrifices and struggles. I’ve sacrificed a lot to do this and keep it going…family, money, time, friendships, and last but most health and sanity. Time has come for me to take a step back and focus on me, on my family, my relationship, my future and what I really want to do. There are bigger dreams to pursue and I’m gonna go pursue them.

Hourglass is going to permanently close the doors on February 3rd. Everything will be business as usual until that date.

Thank you for everything friends. I couldn’t have done any of it without you. I have found love and acceptance and fellowship with so many of you amazing people. Now, I’ll have time to venture out and support all of your amazingness. Keep on Keeping on! I’ll be there!

Always,
Ms Widow”
