The Cypher Open Mic Poetry & Soul has moved around some the past few years;
De Real Ting Cafe, The Phoenix Taproom, Club TSI and the most recent move, to their current home in Burro Bar.
The venue may have changed but the heart and soul of Cypher have remained a constant.
Cypher also remains one of the longest running Open Mic events of it’s caliber in Northeast Florida.
More than a poetry and music showcase, The Cypher is an engaging and memorable experience for the soul. The Cypher provides one of the best places to express yourself as well as to enjoy some of the hottest poets, singers, musicians, and artists from Jacksonville, Florida and around the country.
It doesn’t hurt that it’s new home, Burro Bar, is one of the best places to enjoy craft beer in the city.
Hosts are varied and come and go, leaving a bit of themselves in Cypher, but DJ Monsta has been a constant.
Some other highly regarded local talent seen in recent shows are ; Mas Appeal, EbonyPayne, Purple Rose,Eric Jamaal Williams, AKA Gucci Bae Phillips, The IGive and Sarafina Ethereal.

Yeah, a lot of places toss around propaganda like that trying to make money. And yes, Burro makes money but they also walk the walk and give local artists of all kinds a home.
So go have a beer, or two and check out some of those artists, musicians and poets.
