Noises Off is a comedy classic play-within-a-play. The director of a second-rate theater company is desperately trying to get a disastrous production of a British adult-farce on its feet. From final rehearsals, to opening night, and onto the tour, we follow the onstage and offstage personal dramas of the actors and crew as things fall apart. A hilarious send-up of a life in the theater.

Inspired by the plays of Bertolt Brecht and Nottage’s interviews with African women affected by war, Ruined explores the complex humanity of those struggling for survival in the midst of unspeakable horrors. Anna in the Tropics
In the lush setting of Ybor City, Florida in the 1920s, a visiting lector reads the Russian novel Anna Karenina to workers in a Cuban-American family’s cigar factory. During the long, humid days of rolling cigars by hand, the workers find themselves transformed by the language of Tolstoy’s classic, as the book’s events inspire shocking confrontations with issues in their own lives. Winner, 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

MOCA NEW PLAY SERIES
Phase Eight and the Museum Of Contemporary Art (MOCA) will collaborate during the 2018-2019 season. The partnership creates a crossroads by sharing with the community the profound effect that their respective art has on its audience. The plays produced will speak to the exhibitions curated by MOCA. Combining theater and visual art engages audiences in a unique and provocative experience that is sure to be remembered.

In MLK BLVD, a young man struggles to dream beyond a life on the street; searching for reasons to hope for a different future. After being confronted by the greatest challenge he has ever known, he strives to find a way for his people to achieve safety, freedom, and glory. His attempts to create a place for himself in the world come with an incomprehensibly grave cost.

Seconds after gunfire rings out at a workplace Christmas party, a group of employees barricade themselves in a conference room while waiting for help to arrive. As each terrorizing moment passes, the employees question their faith, sanity, and what might happen if the shooter finds them. In a series of flash-forwards to company-mandated grief counseling sessions, we learn the horrific details of the mass shooting through firsthand accounts of the employees who survived. While coming to terms with the aftermath of the event, the employees also come to realize the startling identity of the gunman.
