Norman Studios, Hollywood East

Watch a short clip from “Hollywood East,” a documentary produced by the Jacksonville Film Institute about “Florida’s Silent Film Legacy.” Available for purchase through Norman Studios, the documentary tells the story of how Jacksonville became the winter hub of the “burgeoning motion picture industry” in the early 1900s, when more than 30 studios were located there. After re-building the city after the Great Fire in 1901, Jacksonville became at that time the most modern city in the country. Filmmakers also found that the area’s rivers, marshes, woods, beaches and sunny balmy weather were perfect for their needs. The documentary is a Nadia Ramoutar Film and a Cape and Tiara Production.
