A gelatin shot, commonly called, at least on this continent, a Jell-O shot and even more commonly called, a jello shot is a shooter in which liquor, usually vodka, rum, or tequila, replaces some of the water used to congeal the gel.
And all too commonly, the cheapest hooch in the house is used.

But before we get started on the recipes, where did the jello shot come from?
Rumor has it that Tom Lehrer invented it. And just who is Tom Lehrer?
Mr. Lehrer is an American singer-songwriter, satirist, pianist, and mathematician.
He earned his AB in mathematics (magna cum laude) and a MA degree from Harvard University. He was a researcher at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory and served in the U.S. Army while working at the National Security Agency.

Anyway, it was during his time with the NSA that he”claims” to have invented the jello shot.as a means of circumventing liquor restrictions.
And, ole Tom may well have reintroduced the jello shot to the world but he, however interesting he may may be, was not the inventor of the jello shot.
That honor goes to Mr. Jerry Thomas, author of the first published recipe for what we now call a jello shot, way back then, in 1862, he called it Punch Jelly n his book, “How to Mix Drinks, or The Bon Vivant’s Companion”

Sex on the Beach Jello Shot
3 oz. package orange Jello
8 oz. (1 cup) boiling cranberry juice
3 oz. peach schnapps
5 oz. vodka
Margarita Jello Shot
3 oz. package lime Jello
8 oz. (1 cup) boiling water
4 oz. tequila
4 oz. sweet and sour or Margarita mix
Substitue watermelon Jello for lime for a melon margarita.
Strawberry Daiquiri Jello Shot
3 oz. package wild strawberry Jello
8 oz. (1 cup) Boiling water
6 oz. white rum
1 oz. sweet and sour or Margarita mix
Jager Bomb Jello Shot
6 oz. package orange Jello
1 can Red Bull, heated to boiling
4 oz. Jagermeister
2 oz. vodka
2 oz. cold water
Dissolve Jello in heated Red Bull, then add liquors and cold water.
Fuzzy Navel Jello Shot
3 oz. package orange Jello
8 oz. (1 cup) boiling water
2 oz. vodka
6 oz. peach schnapps
Mojito Jello Shot
3 oz. package lime Jello
8 oz. (1 cup) Boiling water
