Half of the Jacksonville area’s 14 full-service hospitals earned top marks in a watchdog group’s latest report card on patient safety, and the region performed far above average overall.
In addition to the seven hospitals that received A’s on the Leapfrog Group’s fall 2022 report card, six received B’s and one got a C. The 92% of local hospitals at the A or B level is far above the 58% that reach those levels nationally.
The twice-annual assessment is based on public data on 30 criteria, like inpatient injuries, medical errors, ICU staffing and nursing engagement.
Here are local hospitals’ grades:
A: Ascension St. Vincent’s Southside, Baptist Medical Center, Baptist Medical Center South, Baptist Medical Center Beaches, Baptist Medical Center Nassau, Flagler Hospital and Mayo Clinic.
B: Ascension St. Vincent’s Clay County Hospital, HCA Florida Memorial Hospital, HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital, HCA Florida Putnam Hospital, UF Health Jacksonville and UF Health North.
C: Ascension St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospital
Nationally, 36% of hospitals got C grades, with the remaining 7% given Ds and Fs.
