It’s a Pizza Fest 4 weekend: aka all you can eat musical buffet

When I told a friend I was going to the PIZZA FEST 4 Preparty at Shantytown Pub, she laughed and said, “you do know it won’t be poetry this time, right?”
Her question was  in reference  to a previous visit we had made together for Poetry Night at Shanty

I smiled and said, maybe, maybe not. I’m sure there will be poetry as nearly all musicians are poets, though not all poets are musicians, lest we forget WB Yeats chanting his poems to the accompaniment of a lute. An endeavor which left Bernard Shaw describing the night’s events as “a nerve-destroying crooning like the maunderings of an idiot-banshee”.

So yes, I don’t expect any solo poets at the mic but I do expect a great lineup of talented musicians across a broad spectrum of style and genre. Plus there will be pizza rolls! Pizza rolls and beer!

She laughed and said I thought it was pizza fest, not pizza roll fest.
I answered with why can’t it be both? Then, more seriously, okay not that seriously; It’s a Pre Party! You don’t just jump into pizza fest you have to roll in, gradually.

Evidently someone forget to mention that to the promoters, Miss Parker and Scotchy Scotch Scotch LLC.
There was nothing gradual about last nights  PIZZA FEST 4 Preparty .  There was no rolling in.  It was thick, deep, saucy, and in your face from your first bite to the last. It was also, at times, cheesey, with no extra charge for the cheese! Spoiler Alert…there was a “Chunky Monkey” pizza roll, how many can you stuff in your face, eating contest.

There was also plenty of “Pizza Rolls in my pocket” to go along with the “Jello Shots in my pocket”
And there were life lessons galore; “If you don’t eat pussy I don’t trust you””If you don’t know Jesus you don’t know shit,” and  “Wrinkles are permanent”

And there was more! There was music, dancing and fun. There was friendship, kindness and love. They say love grows best in small spaces and that was evident last night, at Shantytown Pub. Shanty is not a large venue but it holds plenty of love. The Pit was active and I’ve seen Pits go terribly wrong before, seldom have I seen one so active, go so right. The venue was filled with; the cool kids, the misfits, hipsters, punks, insiders, outsiders, and no siders. Some just wanted a night out, others wanted to fit in, but the assholes and the haters, they all stayed home, or at the least, they stayed away.

Charlie Shuck sang of  a field of sunflowers and daisies. Charlie, you may be on to something.

Back to business. If you went, you’re probably still sleeping while I’m writing this. I’m old and rise and shine comes early, or atleast, rise does. Thankfully so does coffee.
You kids sleep in a little longer. If you didn’t go, you should have! As for now, you’ll have to wait until next year for another  PIZZA FEST Pre Party  But you can still catch PIZZA FEST 4, tonight and tomorrow at Nighthawks.

So do yourself a flavor and pull up a seat at the buffet that Miss Parker and Scotchy Scotch Scotch LLC. have prepared for your musical enjoyment. Bring a napkin, hell, bring a bib, it’s saucy!

Pictures and video will be up soon, both on this website as well as our facebook page.
