FDOT’s failure to plan is a plan for cyclists injuries and deaths

The Florida Department of Transportation is considering changes to the roadway, striping and medians on State Road 211 (St. Johns Avenue/Herschel Street) between Canterbury Street and Melrose Avenue, Financial Project Number 443551-1. Proposed improvements include replacing two signalized intersections with roundabouts at St. Johns Avenue/Herschel Street/Geraldine Drive and St. Johns Avenue/Herschel Street just south of Woodmere Drive.

Continuing longstanding tradition with FDOT, they have failed to incorporate bicycle lanes into their plans, at least any plans they have made public thus far.
That they would continue with such planning failures is inexcusable, especially within the Riverside Avondale area which has a large population of cyclists, as well as pedestrians and joggers, who all deserve fair, and protected access to our roadways.

There is a Access Management Hearing (Wednesday, January 22, 2020) The hearing is open to the public and will take place at;

FDOT Training Center
2198 Edison Avenue
Jacksonville, FL 32204.

Those interested can drop by anytime between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. to learn more about the proposed changes and speak with FDOT staff and consultants. The formal public hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m.
