The historic “Derby” building in 5 Points has been leased by Chad Munsey and Michael Schmidt, owners of The Bearded Pig in San Marco and the Rec Room, also in Five Points. The duo plan a mid-April opening for their Derby House Diner. They also plan to return the Derby to it’s roots.
“The Derby was popular and a landmark because it had diner food and we are bringing that back,” Schmidt said.The menu will have “classic, affordable diner food,” including BLT and Reuben sandwiches, fried chicken and meatloaf. Desserts will be in a display case at the front of the restaurant and will include; pies, cakes, sundaes and milkshakes.There will also be a full bar and offerings of wine, classic cocktails and regional beers.
