DCPS revised budget proposal removes arts, music and PE from the chopping block

Faced with a $62 million budget shortfall Duval County Public Schools had proposed changes to the frequency of arts, music and PE classes.

The backlash from concerned parents, the arts community, educators and citizens throughout Jacksonville was immediate.
Faced with such widespread opposition DCPS now says the frequency will remain the same.

Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene released the following statement minutes ago;

“Arts, music, and physical education provide important developmental experiences for children. I am thankful the Board is supportive of other strategies to balance the budget and that we will continue this district’s commitment to arts, music, and physical education,”
