Art Walk at the Fire Station

Art Walk Wednesday September 4, 2013

The Fire Station on the corner of Ocean and Adams will be open during Art Walk with a large number of local artists displaying their work inside

The Central Fire House  (Station #1) was built in 1903.  It is unique, architecturally and historically for that  period.
If you have the time you really don’t want to miss this opportunity as the fire house happens to be for sale, for any of you who wish to have a firepole of your very own.

As the name would suggest this was Jacksonville’s first Fire Station and the command center for the Fire Department.  It was decommissioned in 1985. and it’s duties were transferred to the current Fire Station #1 located at 611 North Liberty Street and affectionately known as “The Rock”.

In 1995 it was purchased and the second floor has been renovated as a home.  The garage area has been left untouched and has three bays facing Adams Street and two bays facing Ocean Street. The former fire department communications room, called “The Booth,” is still intact, but the switchboard system used to communicate with the City fire stations was removed before the station was decommissioned.
Once the Fire House is sold again there may never be another opportunity to view it from the inside.

The Fire Trucks, themselves, works of art and engineering  are gone but for September’s Art Walk there will once again be works of art within the bays of the proud old Fire House.
That art, like the Fire Trucks of old and the men and women who rode them, may likewise save your life.

Artists will include;

Twisted Eye Candy
Germ Spider Designs: Horror Art
Riley Hendricks
Shoebeedoo
Professor Whiskey’s Traveling Bizarre Bazaar’s LuckyVon Lu will have her mouthwatering cupcakes and brownies at the fire station! The following will be available; Donut and coffee cupcakes, maple bacon cupcakes, red wine red velvet cupcakes, lemon peach cupcakes, s’mores brownies and raspberry brownies.  Swing by and get some of this in your mouth
