Animal Care & Protective Services is asking for your help

“Jax-it’s time for a serious conversation. Your city shelter is full. In addition to dealing with normally high summer intake we have been working several cases that will result in ACPS caring for the animals for an extended period of time. We need your help to continue our lifesaving work.

There are currently 249 dogs and 201 cats in the shelter with more animals arriving daily. Our shelter has 260 dog kennels and 98 cat kennels. We will be over capacity in a couple of days if we don’t act fast!
Want to help? Here are just a few ways that you can help.

1. Adopt. We have 123 dogs and 90 cats and kittens available for adoption. Adoption fees are free on all cats over 6 months and dogs over 1 year.
2. Foster. There are several foster options available. Foster for a weekend, a couple of weeks or longer. We can find the perfect fit for you. Email ACPSfosters@coj.net or stop in to get started today.
3. Keep lost pets out of the shelter. If you find a stray dog please try to find the owner before bringing it to the shelter. Post on social media, next door and PetcoLoveLost. Most stray dogs go missing less than a mile away from home.
4.Donate. We are in need of peanut butter, velveeta cheese, canned kitten food (preferably pro plan or fancy feast) pupperoni’s and beef tracheas. Donations can be dropped off in person or mailed to 2020 Forest St.
5.Volunteer. Not ready to foster or adopt but want to help in person? Fill out a volunteer application at www.coj.net/volunteer to learn more.
6.Share this post. You never know, one of your friends may be able to help.
We know we can do this with your help!”
