A man was seriously injured after colliding with an Amtrack train in Northwest Jacksonville this morning. The train was headed south, on the track along Moncrief Dinsmore Road when the man drove around the railroad crossing arms on Dunn Avenue. Traveling at normal speed, 78 mph, the train was unable to stop in time and pushed the sedan over a quarter of a mile down the tracks to Civic Club Drive, which was closed for several hours as the scene was cleaned up.
Driving around rail crossing arms is illegal. The train was delayed by three hours and traffic was backed up for hours because one person couldn’t wait a few minutes for the train to pass. Please don’t risk it. It is not worth it.
