1st Annual Nighthawks Pencil Break Contest and School Supply Drive

Join Nighthawks for a night of pencil breaking, beers and music, all while raising money and collecting school supplies for teachers and students!

All proceeds from this event will benefit local schools in need by way of City Year, Jacksonville office.

$10 to play, $5 to spectate.

Show your teacher badge and get free a free Cigar City Brewery Jail Ali or Florida Cracker beer, courtesy of North Florida Sales.

School supplies will be collected, so bring it!!
Friday, August 11 from 9 pm until close.


OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATION FOR THE FIRST ANNUAL NIGHTHAWKS PENCIL BREAK CONTEST:

  1. First of all, as much as this is a contest and school supply drive, it is also a appreciation party for ALL teachers, as they go back to school. Show your current valid teacher ID badge/card at the door for one ticket for a free Cigar City Brewing Jai Ali or Florida Cracker Pint! Thanks to Kyle and Festo at NF Sales!!!
  2. Doors open at 8pm tomorrow. There are 32 spots open and available for the pencil fight. It is single elimination, so we go 32-16-8-4-Finals. It is $10 to enter, and spots are sold first come, first serve. To insure a spot get there early. There will be a sign up table held down by Laura Phillips Edgecombe, Beth Harralson, and Kathleen Shelton.The actual battle starts around 9pm. Its is $5 to come in as a spectator. All proceeds go to City Year. City Year is an education non-profit partnered with AmeriCorps. We place young adults in inner city schools to serve as tutors and mentors to at risk students.
  3. One round per battle. Ian Ranne and Autrelle Holland are host, judge, jury, and executioner. You MUST only use the pencils the hosts provide. The hosts decide when/if a “foul” is called for a re-do. Some possible fouls are a hit hand, a dropped pencil, etc….but the hosts/judges can call foul/redo for any reason they see fit.
  4. Have fun widdit! Miguel Almeida aka Mas Appeal will be holding down DJ duty, bring your entrance theme song on a thumb drive or your phone and he will play it during your match. Alyssa June Key donated some desks and stuff, the stage will look like a legit classroom! Dress as a teacher, or a little kid! Or better yet as a pro wrestler or some shit!!!
  5. We are blessed to have support for prizes/raffles from Roni Luebkert, Tiny Treasures by Kes, Nighthawks, Rain dogs., BREW Five Points, The Bearded Pig BBQ, Bold Bean Coffee Roasters, and more and more are being added by the moment! If your company or job wants to contribute, it’s not too late! Taking donations up and through the show!!! Raffle tix will be for sale all night, and there will be raffles throughout the whole night!

Finally, this is a supply drive too. If you’re a spectator and wanna donate more then $5 GO FOR IT! Bring school supplies, we are collecting all school supplies and they are as good as cash! The bar is throwing a portion of the bar sales in, also! The goal is to raise at least $1000 cash and a few boxes of supplies to City Year.
