Many homeless people carry their lives with them in backpacks. These bags often contain identification, clothing, hygiene items, photos, and perhaps a few personal treasures. That’s why today, thanks to the generosity of the Weaver Family Foundation, Sulzbacher celebrated the opening of the new Urban Rest Stop storage facility at its downtown campus (611 E. Adams St.)
This storage facility is available to people experiencing unsheltered homelessness who need a secure place to leave their possessions while receiving any of the various services provided. One of the barriers to receiving services is the fear that their possessions will be lost or stolen while they see their case manager, take a shower, or attend a doctor’s appointment.
The Urban Rest Stop Facility will host rows of 100 lockable bins to secure valuables and they will be monitored by staff. Clients can store their belongings for up to 30 days and know that while they are working toward their independence and self-sufficiency, their valuables are protected.
