Ten Duval high schools recognized among best in nation

Not everyone can say that they’re among the best in the nation. But Team Duval is celebrating 10 district high schools that can, in fact, make that claim. The distinction? They are ranked among U.S. News & World Report’s Best High Schools in the nation.

According to the company, a great high school, “educates all students from different social and economic backgrounds, exposing them to challenging coursework on the path to graduation.” These schools were ranked on six criteria: college readiness, math and reading proficiency, math and reading performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rate. The criteria that carries the most weight is college readiness.

The 10 schools are:

  1. Atlantic Coast High School
  2. Darnell-Cookman School of the Medical Arts
  3. Douglas Anderson School of the Arts
  4. Duncan Fletcher High School
  5. Mandarin High School
  6. Paxon School for Advanced Studies
  7. Riverside High School
  8. Samuel W. Wolfson School for Advanced Studies and Leadership
  9. Sandalwood High School
  10. Stanton College Preparatory School

Board members and Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene recognized the schools and their leadership during December’s regular Board meeting.
