Mayor Deegan’s River City Readers is a citywide literacy challenge for school-aged children that will run through 2024. The challenge will launch at the Jacksonville Main Library at a special FREE event on Saturday, January 27th, 2024 from 10am to 2pm at the downtown Main Library.
Attendees will receive free books, free clear backpacks, and free lunch, along with the chance to participate in literacy workshops and connect with dozens of local vendors.
Free parking in the Duval Library garage will be available.
Mayor Deegan will be on hand to kick off the event. Also appearing are children’s author Vincent Taylor, the WJCT PBS Kids Characters, Jaxon de Ville, the Jaguars drumline, and the Roar!
Volunteers will be on hand to help people download the free Beanstack app to join the mayor’s reading challenge. Through the app, children and their caregivers will be able to log their reading minutes with the goal of reading at least 20 minutes per day. At the end of the year, the city’s top young readers will be given prizes!
