Happy Tapir Presents;
A poetry reading and reception celebrating indie zine and chapbook production company Happy Tapir Press and its two newest releases: MIND THE PATH, the first poetry collection by local poet Keri Foster, and HAPPY TAPIR #4, the fourth installment of Johnny Masiulewicz‘s autobiographical zine series about coming up, into, and out of Chicago in the 90’s.
The reading is Tuesday night, at Yellow House, next to CoRK in Riverside. Doors open at 6:30PM with jazz guitar and trumpet duo Backdoor Stompers JAX playing until the reading begins at 7:30PM. After the reading, there will be a reception and dance party with the spectacular and industrious DJ geexella.
“Backdoor Stompers JAX is made of Andre Gruber (Cander Groupper of New Strangers and The Andre Gruber Trio and Lust Ape magazine) on guitar and Sergio Valdes (who can also be seen with salsa dynamos LPT) on trumpet. These two are members of a large and revolving circle of musicians that work (and play) together in town and both are names to know. Andre and his wife Abigail Gruber are two of the most industrious and studious musicians that I know and if you ever get an invite to one of their house parties – GO!”
~Keri Foster
Yellow House is an important community-oriented institution of arts and activism and so it feels right to use their space to elevate more community-oriented artists and organizations. In this vein, all proceeds from Mind the Path sales at this event will be donated to Girls Rock Camp Jacksonville.
