Alex Sawyer, “Spikes” to old friends, is Captain of the 219th at Umbrella Corporation Jacksonville (Home of the 219th Brain Surgeons), Owner-operator at *Make Me Designs and a former member of The Imperial Marauder Patrol, attached to The 501st Legion.
If you mixed equal parts of Sheriff Andy Taylor from “The Andy Griffith Show” and Bear Grylls of “Man vs. Wild” fame, along with just a smidge of Han Solo, you’d have Alex.

Y’all portray your “Neighbors to Know” as people Mr. Rogers would like and that’s cool. There’s a quote from him that describes Alex perfectly; “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
Alex Sawyer is a helper.
Spikes (Alex) is full of shit; information, facts, all sorts of knowledge that won’t ever do him any good, unless he gets on Jeopardy. He is also full of smiles, laughter and good will.
One hundred people could pass someone stranded on the side of the road without thinking anything about it. Then Alex comes along and he stops, every time, without thinking anything about it.
After Irma hit, Alex’s parents were trapped by flood waters in their home so of course Alex went and got them out. No big surprise there. He also helped everyone on their street who wanted to evacuate to get out. Again, if you know Alex, no surprise. But he got everyone else out first and then he rescued his parents. Who does that? No one I know, but Alex.
Spikes (Alex) is always doing something to help someone or some group, both in his work and in his play (with Umbrella and the 501st) If there’s an event to support or help someone, Spikes is there.
Alex’s idea of fun is to get in his Jeep during a storm, even hurricanes, and drive around looking for someone who needs help.
And the one that started it all; “He is the kind of neighbor Mr. Rogers would have wanted in his neighborhood.”
