Mayor’s Essay Contest

In support of Duval County Public Schools’ Jacksonville Goes to College Week and to promote educational excellence, Mayor Curry is encouraging students in Duval County to participate in the Mayor’s Essay Contest.
 
Three winners will receive two tickets to watch the Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Dec. 2.

Mayor’s Essay Contest Guidelines:

  • One winner will be selected from each of the three categories —elementary school, middle school, and high school.
  • The essay must include a title page with the student’s name, grade, school, and the name of the contact teacher.
  • The essay must be typed, double-spaced, and use Times New Roman and 12-point font.
  • The essay must be between 1,000-1,500 words for middle and high school participants, and between 250-500 words for elementary school participants.
  • Participants must write on one of the following topics according to grade:
    • Elementary school – What would you tell a high school senior who is preparing to go to college?
    • Middle and high school — The book “All I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” demonstrates how some of the most basic lessons can also be the most essential for success. What lessons from kindergarten will you use to be successful in college?

The contest will run from Wednesday, Sept. 26 – Monday, Oct. 15.
