Mapping Our Past, Jacksonville Public Library’s annual affair to celebrate the Lewis Ansbacher Map Collection—a true treasure comprising more than 240 antiquarian maps—returns to the Main Library. This year’s highlight will be the unveiling of the newly updated Jordan and Shirley Ansbacher Gallery to display the prized Le Moyne/De Bry Collection of engravings, which gives us the first European look of Native Americans in what is now Florida.
The keynote speaker will be Miles Harvey, award winning journalist and author of Island of Lost Maps: A True Story of Cartographic Crime and Painter in a Savage Land: The Strange Saga of the First European Artist in North America.
Antique Treasures
Local antique appraisers will offer on-site evaluations of your old maps and antique treasures. Limit 2 items per household. Must have a valid Jacksonville Public Library card in good standing. Cards can be obtained for free at the program.

Enjoy a personalized tour of the magnificent Morris Ansbacher Map Room, which holds the Lewis Ansbacher Map Collection with over 240 antiquarian maps and engravings.
The Mysteries of Jacques le Moyne de Morgues
Mapmaker, illustrator and explorer Jacques le Moyne de Morgues left behind a fascinating visual and written record of Native American life in 16th century Florida. But the life, career and adventures of this exceptional artist are shrouded in mystery. Who was he? What was he doing in Florida? And what became of the French fort where he lived? In his keynote talk, bestselling author Miles Harvey looks at the many intriguing mysteries surrounding the first European artist in North America.
