Earlier this evening the LaVilla Heritage Trail and Gateway Committee presented its LaVilla Heritage Trail project to the Downtown Investment Authority. The proposed LaVilla Heritage Trail across the historically Black Jacksonville neighborhood includes 55 notable historic sites, including the Ritz Theatre and Genovar’s Hall, a now abandoned building that once hosted performances by a number of legendary musicians. An app and signage would allow people to take self-guided tours along the trail to learn about the history of the neighborhood. A Downtown Investment Authority meeting next month is set to discuss the next steps for the project, which is estimated to cost $800,000.
