Happy Birthday to Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve! It was 34 years ago today when President Ronald Reagan signed the bill that established this National Park Service preserve, named after the Timucua who inhabited the area for thousands of years. With more than 46,000 acres of land and water, it is a true gem that gives us all a place to enjoy natural surroundings and learn the rich history of the region. We give a birthday shout-out to the NPS rangers, scientists, and curators who conduct research and interpret the preserve’s natural and cultural resources and its maintenance staff who care for multiple sites that protect historical structures, grounds, trails, and the wildlife that call them home.
