The revival of Burlesque has been happening in larger cities since the early 1990’s. Two local burlesque dancers, Miss Sammy Sutra and Miss Deb au Nare thought it was time Jacksonville joined the ranks. The two had danced together years ago, both searching for a group dedicated to keeping the old fashioned Burlesque feel alive. They reunited in April 2010 to form a group of their own. Bada Bing Babes Burlesque.
They have recruited additional members to their cause;
Lucky Von Lu
Billie Marquee
Hot Rod Roxy
Bettie Belladonna
The group dances throughout Florida and Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia but Jacksonville is their home.
They have a regular Monday night event at Club TSI. Risqué Monday. And on the third Monday they host Risqué Art & Entertainment.
A common misconception is that the dancers are “glorified strippers” Sammy Sutra says that is just not true. “There’s no actual nudity in their act, and there won’t ever be. There’s a line you don’t cross. There’s a line that defines burlesque. It’s sexy, but not vulgar.”
The Bada Bing Babes are definitely sexy. They do sexy with style, class and respect for the history of their craft. The group itself is a picture of that history with women from all different walks of life, women with different body types, different hair colors, some with body art and or piercings, others without.
In an age of instant gratification, where one can see full nudity with just a click of the enter button Bada Bing Babes Burlesque takes us on a nostalgic journey to a time where there was mystery, glamour and wonderment in the supple moves of the burlesque dancer.
