Yesterday we posted an unconfirmed rumor on our facebook page, that everyone’s favorite speakeasy, The Volstead might not be closing as we and others had reported on July 23
Today we are happy to confirm that rumor to be true.
Local business owners and Volstead patrons, Dana Chen and her husband, George Cunningham, had been in private negotiations with The Volstead’s co-founders, Sam Linn, Alexa DiMaio and Matt Williams to purchase the business.
An agreement has been reached and the The Volstead will remain open.
Chen and Cunningham are Atlantic Beach residents and currently own a real estate company, Cheningham Realty LLC and Proudly Sourcing, a business that aids small businesses in overseas purchasing.
The couple plan to keep the name and the theme of the Volstead. They will also keep the handcrafted cocktail menu. No major changes are anticipated other than improvements to the restroom facilities.
The staff, with the exception of Linn and DiMaio, will remain
You heard it here first-ish. The Volstead will not close August 21st so there will not be a closing the doors forever party but there will be a party on September 1st to celebrate The Volstead not going anywhere.
But seriously, at The Volstead every night is a party.
