The owners of Regency Square Mall yesterday announced they are finalizing its sale to an unidentified buyer. The proposed deal comes after Arlington City Council member Ken Amaro called on the owners to shape up or ship out and Sen. Clay Yarborough, R-Jacksonville, demanded immediate action to fix health and safety hazards. The 56-year-old indoor mall, once billed as the largest shopping center in the Southeast, is full of empty areas that are roped off, along with significant water damage, mold and exposed wiring. With some former department store spaces that are separately owned, it’s not immediately clear what the potential sale will mean for the mall’s future.
