The Homelessness Subcommittee, one of the many transition committees put together by Mayor Donna Deegan, is working on recommendations to bring down the number of people without shelter. The list so far includes allocating $200,000 to a program aimed at preventing homeless shelters from being inundated when housing gets condemned or shut down by creating a list of emergency housing providers; adjusting zoning to allow more multifamily housing; and incentivizing developers to set aside units as affordable housing. The committee will provide its full list of recommendations to the mayor by September 5th. (Jacksonville Today)
