It’s a new year so you will be seeing all sorts of “Best of” articles, memes and columns. Some even did theirs in the middle of last year. How you decide who the best anything was for the year before the year is over seems a little sketchy, but that’s none of my business.
This article is part of a series showcasing the best in Jacksonville, Florida. We did ours differently than most. Our best is not just a popularity contest as many others are.
We accepted votes, via our facebook page, to get a list of the top twenty as selected by the citizens of Jax. We then sent Deputy Examiners into the field to independently rate each burger, beer, cocktail, happy hour, etc…
We took those totals and came up with a list of the five best in each category as well as 5 honorable mentions. There were a few categories that didn’t have twenty and in that case we used the top half for our in field examinations. Our best of are not listed in any particular order, they represent the best Jax has to offer in their respective categories. We have left the best part for you; try each one and decide for yourself which is The Best in Jax! Best Hot Wings;
Bay Street Bar & Grill
Uses fresh jumbo wings tossed in their signature sauces, lovingly prepared by Chef Alva Richcreek and his able staff. They offer Classic Buffalo (Mild, Medium, or Hot), Sriracha Ranch, Lemon Pepper,Hot & Sweet Asian, Thai Basil, Golden BBQ and Honey Mustard.
Many of the flavors offered are standard in most wing places what sets BSBG apart is the delivery. They excel, both in the kitchen with their flavorful creations and in the dining room with their fast and friendly service.
It doesn’t hurt that they have more than 20 beers as well as a fully stocked liquor bar to wash those wings down with, but not too quickly, let that flavor stay awhile in your mouth. Your mouth will thank you for it.
Dick’s Wings
With close to two dozen locations in Jacksonville chances are you have a Dick’s Wings near you and with 365 varieties available chances are they will have a flavor(s) you like. Wings are served with your choice of heat, from wimpy to swamp fever. Some of our reader’s favorites include; Mango Habanero, Red Chile Adobo and Sriracha.
Harp’s An American Pub & Grill Aka Harpoon Louie’s
Has been appearing on best in Jax lists for decades so it’s no surprise that Avondale’s favorite American pub and grill landed on our Best Wings. They offer; Mild, Medium, Hot or Honey BBQ, Cajun Ranch, Blackened and Karl’s Way.
Hurricane Grill and Wings
Is all about the sauces, at least according to our readers. There are over 30 different sauces to choose from, twelve of which are their signature sauces, plus rubs and glazes. One of the great things they offer is the opportunity to create your own flavor(s) by combining different sauces.
Miller’s Mandarin Ale House
Served with celery and bleu cheese or ranch dressing. Tossed in your choice of sauce. Breaded upon request. Sauces; Mild, Medium, Hot, Mt. St. Helens, Zesty Garlic, Garlic Parmesan, Garlic, Honey BBQ, BBQ, Teriyaki, Sweet Thai Chili, Honey Mustard, Lemon Pepper, Mango Habanero, Honey Lime Sriracha.
Honorable Mention;
Buffalo Wild Wings, Hip Hop Fish & Chicken, Wing It and Mr. Dragon. The competition was fierce and even though these five didn’t make the best in Jax list they will all satisfy even the most discerning wing aficionado.
